Basketball Recap: Uluaki Taukiuvea Key Part of a Team Effort in Wolverines Win

After losing to Taylorsville the last time they met, Hunter decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Hunter Wolverines strolled past the Taylorsville Warriors with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 82-67. The Wolverines didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Hunter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Uluaki Taukiuvea led the charge by going 11 for 18 on his way to 26 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Taukiuvea is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Keaton Miller, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards.

Taukiuvea wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Hunter was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Taylorsville lost, don't look at Kobe Allen. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine assists. That's the most points Allen has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Chatlin Mills, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Hunter's record now sits at 5-9. As for Taylorsville, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hunter will take on Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Juan Diego Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Hunter surely won't give up without a fight. Taylorsville has already played their next contest (against West Jordan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
