Softball Recap: South Allegheny Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

South Allegheny took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Serra Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Gladiators had just enough and edged out the Eagles 3-2. The three-run effort marked the Gladiators' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Carrera Conley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Conley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cadence McBride, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Mika Katchur was another, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

South Allegheny pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Serra Catholic, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, South Allegheny will welcome Brentwood at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Serra Catholic, they will head out to take on St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
