Baseball Game Preview: Vasquez Mustangs vs. Faith Baptist Contenders

For the second straight game, Vasquez will face off against Faith Baptist. The Mustangs will take on the Contenders at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vasquez has six straight victories, Faith Baptist has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Vasquez is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Faith Baptist with a sharp 16-5 win on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Landon Jensen and Brandon Vasquez did most of the damage at the plate: Jensen went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and one run, while Vasquez went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Jensen a new career-high. Zach Vanornum was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.

Vasquez pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Faith Baptist, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
