Basketball Recap: Jenna Mcclain's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fremont over Bellevue East

Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bellevue East Chieftains. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Chieftains are ranked tenth).

Fremont lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jenna McClain, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. She is becoming a predictor of Fremont's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 5-2 (and 2-14 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Denker, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Bellevue East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mya Weber led the charge by dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Jayla Wilson was another key player, putting up 15 points and eight rebounds.

Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Bellevue East, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

Fremont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-47 loss against Bellevue West on the 21st. As for Bellevue East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-32 win against Omaha Northwest on the 20th.
