Basketball Recap: Shyla Pipkin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Red Mesa over Rock Point

Red Mesa lost against Rock Point back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Red Mesa Redskins lost to the Rock Point Cougars at home by a 65-51 margin.

Red Mesa's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shyla Pipkin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. That's the most points Pipkin has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Jones, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Red Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Red Mesa's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12. As for Rock Point, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Mesa will welcome Ash Fork at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rock Point, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Williams at 3:30 p.m. One thing working in Rock Point's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
