Softball Recap: Cathedral Catholic Comes Up Short

Mater Dei Catholic hit Cathedral Catholic with a four-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Dons fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 7-6. The Dons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Crusaders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ellie Davis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Marlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Cathedral Catholic's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5.

Cathedral Catholic and Mater Dei Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Dons (ranked 57th) will meet Patrick Henry (ranked 381st) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic will take on Eastlake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (27 vs. 129). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crusaders 3, the Titans 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
