Softball Recap: Springfield Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

While Springfield put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Pope John Paul II. The Yellow Jackets were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Knights. The victory was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets as they're now sitting on six straight.

Ella Shoulders made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Shoulders was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Planer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Margret King was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pope John Paul II only posted a batting average of .304.

Springfield's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pope John Paul II, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.

Springfield will head out to square off against Jo Byrns at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pope John Paul II, they will welcome Brentwood Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
