Basketball Recap: East Carteret Takes a Loss

East Carteret was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 63-48 to the Havelock Rams. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why East Carteret lost, don't look at Jayedon Watson. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 9 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Watson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was McIntosh Luke, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

Havelock's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevonte Simmons, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine steals. Simmons' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Strong, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards.

East Carteret's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Havelock, with the win, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-2.

East Carteret wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 87-55 loss against West Carteret on the 6th. As for Havelock, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-51 defeat against Swansboro on the 10th.
