Baseball Preview: High Point Academy Grizzlies vs. Blacksburg Wildcats
The High Point Academy Grizzlies will challenge the Blacksburg Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
High Point Academy fell victim to Landrum and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to the Cardinals.
Blacksburg couldn't beat Oakbrook Prep on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Wildcats came up short against the Knights, falling 19-8. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Knights 4-0 in the first period.
Matty Cody put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Neal Thompson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
