Football Recap: Pittsburg Piles Up the Points Against Deer Valley

Pittsburg came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 51-0 victory over the Deer Valley Wolverines. Considering the Pirates have won three contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Pittsburg's win came down to the chemistry between Javale Jones and his top target Rolph (RJ) Mosley Jr.. Jones threw for 94 yards and two TDs while completing 80% of his passes while Mosley Jr. picked up 143 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in rushing yards (23). Carlos Torres was another key player, throwing for 185 yards and two TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.

Pittsburg didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Deer Valley to a completion percentage of just 44.4%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Gregg Parker, Jr. and Xavier Fatu, who each logged two passes deflected. Pittsburg hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.6 or higher in three consecutive games.

Pittsburg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Parker, Jr. and Fatu. Fatu got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Deer Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
