Softball Recap: Jefferson Mustangs vs. Devine Warhorses / Arabians
Jefferson had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it eight. They lost 20-0 to the Devine Warhorses / Arabians. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Warhorses / Arabians from their previous meeting back in February of 2023.
Devine's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2-1. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.
For Devine's part, Sam Zamora made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Zamora has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Hester, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kenny Cruz also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
