Recap: Douglass Eagles vs. Gwynn Park Yellowjackets

The Douglass Eagles suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Gwynn Park on the road and fell 88-45. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Douglass in their matchups with Gwynn Park: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Douglass saw an underclassman step up: Courtney Smith scored 19 points. Francessca Svizzero was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Gwynn Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Geornae Davis led the charge by scoring 11 points along with three blocks and two steals. That's the first time this season that Davis posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Mason, who scored 13 points along with three steals.

Douglass' loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Gwynn Park, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Douglass will be playing at home against Friendly at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gwynn Park, they will head out on the road to challenge Largo at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Largo is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
