Softball Recap: Jimtown Wins Going Away Against Bremen

Jimtown hadn't beaten Bremen on the road since May 12, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Jimmies put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 11-2 victory. Considering the Jimmies have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Claire Carlson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Olivia Campbell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Lilly Gaugler was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Jimtown lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Jimtown has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bremen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.

Jimtown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Tippecanoe Valley on the 1st. As for Bremen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Triton on the 30th.
