Basketball Recap: Westfield Takes a Loss

Westfield was the 50-48 winner over Fort Bend Austin when they last played one another back in December of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 52-50 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since February 18th.

When it comes to explaining why Westfield lost, don't look at Korde Smith. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and seven boards. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christopher Clay, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Westfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Fort Bend Austin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

Westfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 37-35 defeat against Hardin-Jefferson on the 13th. As for Fort Bend Austin, they have also already played their next contest, an 84-50 loss against Humble on the 13th.
