Basketball Recap: Hampton Falls Despite Big Games from C J Geiger and Richard Azu

Hampton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 51-38 to the Locust Grove Wildcats. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 60-51.

Hampton's loss came despite strong showings from Richard Azu and C J Geiger. Azu posted 16 points, while Geiger earned 13 points. That's the most points Azu has posted since back in December of 2023.

Locust Grove's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Gant, who had nine points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Hampton now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Locust Grove, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Hampton has already played their next matchup, a 58-51 loss against Eagle's Landing on the 31st. As for Locust Grove, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-57 win against Woodland on the 31st.
