Recap: Cross Trojans vs. Baptist Hill Bobcats
The Cross Trojans posted their biggest win yet this season on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 43-19 margin over Baptist Hill. Given Cross' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Baptist Hill is ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cross to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zhnia Fredricks, who scored 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Middleton, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Baptist Hill lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emerald Alford. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Alford hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Baptist Hill struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cross racked up 12 assists.
Cross' win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Baptist Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Cross will head out on the road to challenge Charleston Math & Science at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Baptist Hill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. John's at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. St. John's has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
