Football Recap: Avon Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Avon had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 27-6 margin over Hornell/Arkport Central/Canaseraga on Friday. With the Braves ahead 21-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Avon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kalman Dolgos led the charge by picking up 110 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also punching in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Dolgos a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two). Evan Blye was another key signal caller, throwing for 261 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes.

Coming up, Avon will face off against Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hornell/Arkport Central/Canaseraga has already played their next game (against Wellsville/Genessee Valley/Belfast), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
