Basketball Recap: Whiteland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Martinsville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whiteland). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Martinsville Artesians 90-61. With that victory, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 51.6 points per game.

Whiteland had a senior duo take command as Gavin Stubbe en route to 23 points and eight boards and Ethan Edwards to rack up 30 points. The matchup was Edwards' seventh in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Joban Kalkat, who posted ten points.

Whiteland was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martinsville only nine assists.

Several Artesians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zhane Capshaw, who on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. Capshaw is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Hunter Stroud was another key player, en route to 22 points.

Whiteland's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-11. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points over those games. As for Martinsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Whiteland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-65 victory against Jennings County on the 22nd. As for Martinsville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 102-62 loss against Greenfield-Central on the 22nd.
