Basketball Recap: South's Run of Three Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but South unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walnut Ridge Scots. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Despite the loss, South still got an impressive performance from John Glover, who posted 16 points. Gavin Griffin was another key player, putting up nine points.

Walnut Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryden Hodge, who had 15 points and four steals. Hodge is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Marquis Lucas, who posted 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

South's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Walnut Ridge, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

South will take on Worthington Christian in a holiday battle at on Monday. As for Walnut Ridge, they will host Africentric Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Africentric Early College knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Walnut Ridge likes a good challenge.
