Football Recap: Wheatley Falls to Madison in First Game of Season

Wheatley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Madison Marlins on Friday, falling 24-0. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Marlins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Avery Jelks was a one-man wrecking crew For Madison. as he rushed for 145 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Those 145 rushing yards gave Jelks a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Wheatley will challenge La Marque at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Madison, they will take on Yates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
