Baseball Recap: Nichols Triumphs

Nichols posted their closest victory since April 16, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Gowanda Panthers 6-4.

Ross Yoshida was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Yoshida was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trenton Ruffolo, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Reed Coene was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

The victory got Nichols back to even at 1-1. As for Gowanda, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Coming up, Nichols will welcome Sweet Home at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gowanda, they will take on Portville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
