Recap: LaFayette Bulldogs vs. Lanett Panthers

Even though the LaFayette Bulldogs have not done well against the Lanett Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. LaFayette greeted the New Year with with a 62-48 win over Lanett. Given LaFayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Lanett is ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Deaundra Vines, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Johnson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.

The victory makes it two in a row for LaFayette and bumps their season record up to 10-5. As for Lanett, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaFayette will take on Reeltown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Reeltown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight two weeks ago. Lanett won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Valley at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. One thing working in Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
