Basketball Game Preview: Coral Springs Colts vs. St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders

The Coral Springs Colts will venture away from home to square off against the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Coral Springs is headed into Wednesday's matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 79-74 heartbreaker at the hands of Victory Christian Academy.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas Aquinas waltzed into their contest on Monday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They blew past the Biggie 82-61. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.

St. Thomas Aquinas' win came from a few key players Coral Springs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dwayne Wimbley Jr., who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Elliott, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

St. Thomas Aquinas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

St. Thomas Aquinas pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.2 points. As for Coral Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.

Coral Springs came up short against St. Thomas Aquinas when the teams last played back in January of 2022, falling 70-58. Can Coral Springs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
