Basketball Game Preview: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Southeast Guilford Falcons

An exciting East v. West battle is about to be fought. The Western Guilford Hornets will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Southeast Guilford Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, Western Guilford didn't have quite enough to beat Northern Guilford and fell 60-57. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Nighthawks: they've now lost eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Southeast Guilford lost to Northwest Guilford at home by a 75-59 margin on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Vikings are ranked 148th).

Western Guilford will have to keep a close watch on Jayce Brannon and Byron Arant, a pair of players who had a big impact on Southeast Guilford's prior game. Brannon posted 14 points, while Arant dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Brannon has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was James Warren, who put up nine points.

Western Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Southeast Guilford, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

Western Guilford skirted past Southeast Guilford 49-47 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Does Western Guilford have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southeast Guilford turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
