Preview: Northwest Mounties vs. Hanover-Horton Comets
The Northwest Mounties will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Hanover-Horton Comets at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Northwest has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Hanover-Horton will arrive with six straight victories.
Last Thursday, Northwest came up short against Columbia Central and fell 62-52. While losing is never fun, Northwest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while Columbia Central is ranked 53rd).
Meanwhile, even though Addison scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Hanover-Horton still came out on top. Hanover-Horton took their matchup against Addison 65-56.
Luke Soper continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Hanover-Horton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Wallbaum, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Northwest has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Hanover-Horton, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
