Olympia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They fell just short of the Delavan Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Olympia sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-17, 17-25, 32-30.
Olympia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Ortiz, who had ten digs and two aces.
She wasn't the only good server: Olympia was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.
Olympia's defeat dropped their record down to 7-22. As for Delavan, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-19.
Olympia will head out to face off against Tolono Unity at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
