League recap: New Deal rises in state rank

1A-1 Region I District 2 recap December 3, 2013

New Deal scaled the state rankings by moving to 221 from 368 this week, the biggest jump in 1A-1 Region I District 2. The Lions were able to move up by beating Stratford 24-20.

New Deal and the Elks played the closest game in the league this week, with New Deal eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Tahoka's Tristan Hilger and Isiah Vega have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-9 quarterback Hilger has thrown for 672 yards this season, while Vega has 11 catches for 228 yards. Ron Mayo's team's Ladareon Hunter leads the league in rushing yards with 1,305.

Demetrius Jackson of the the Lions is just 20 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 114 carries Jackson has accumulated 980 yard this year.

Sundown fell to the Bulldogs 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
