Recap: Elkhart Lions vs. La Porte Slicers

This season hasn't been kind to the Elkhart Lions, who are still winless after their eighth match. They fell just short of La Porte by a score of 63-60. While losing is never fun, Elkhart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while La Porte is ranked 117th).

La Porte's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Griffin Ott-large led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Kieszkowski, who scored 21 points.

Elkhart's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-8. As for La Porte, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhart will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Bend Riley at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. La Porte will finish 2023 at home by hosting Lowell at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Lowell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Friday.
