Recap: Santaluces Chiefs vs. Treasure Coast Titans
The Santaluces Chiefs suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 50-21 loss at the hands of Treasure Coast. Santaluces was down 41-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Santaluces saw an underclassman step up: Makaylah Wayde scored 14 points along with three steals and two blocks. Wayde is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyiah Gaitor, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Treasure Coast got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Telijah Filsaime out in front who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Ariel Horne was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Santaluces has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Treasure Coast, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Santaluces will head out on the road to square off against Cardinal Newman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Cardinal Newman and three for Santaluces. As for Treasure Coast, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Somerset College Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m.
