Volleyball Game Preview: Lubbock-Cooper Pirates vs. Burges Mustangs

The Lubbock-Cooper Pirates will challenge the Burges Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lubbock-Cooper is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Memorial 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Burges, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against Hanks on Thursday as they made off with a 3-0 win. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 16th (when they won 3-0).

Burges not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Hanks between 16 and 19 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.

Burges' win came from a few key players Lubbock-Cooper will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emilly Banuelos, who had 27 digs and two assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last 16 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailey Cordova, who had 16 assists and 13 digs.

Lubbock-Cooper's victory bumped their record up to 24-12. As for Burges, their win bumped their record up to 21-10.
