Basketball Recap: West Ashley Takes a Loss

West Ashley suffered their biggest loss since February 17, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the James Island Trojans, falling 71-50. The Wildcats' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why West Ashley lost, don't look at Kendell Mack. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 25 en route to 37 points. The dominant performance gave Mack a new career-high in points. Lavell Minus also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Leading James Island to victory were Joshua Gladden and Gavin Ward. Gladden went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points, while Ward posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Ward is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Parker Renault, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

West Ashley's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for James Island, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.

West Ashley will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Dorchester at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Ashley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.9 points per game this season. As for James Island, they will head out on the road to face off against Summerville at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. James Island has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
