Softball Game Preview: Rialto Knights vs. San Gorgonio Spartans

Rialto and San Gorgonio are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Rialto will be strutting in after a victory while San Gorgonio will be coming in after a loss.

Rialto was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Eisenhower 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted against the Eagles since May 19, 2021.

Rylee Estrada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Delilah Munoz, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Anaya, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Rialto hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, San Gorgonio was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They lost 13-1 to Colton. The Spartans have struggled against the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Rialto's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for San Gorgonio, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12-1.

Rialto came out on top in a nail-biter against San Gorgonio in their previous matchup on April 11th, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
