The Spanish Fork Dons will head out to square off against the Riverton Silverwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row dating back to last season, Spanish Fork turned things around against Syracuse on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over the Titans. The Dons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Boston Duvall made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Duvall was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Spanish Fork got a great performance from Tilden Scott as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
Back at the plate, Rhythm Fagan was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Pratt Morley, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Spanish Fork kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Syracuse only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Riverton took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They skirted past Taylorsville 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Silverwolves in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.
McKay Linford tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Stein Mozingo, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Spanish Fork's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Riverton, their record now sits at 1-0.
