Baseball Recap: Glenbrook South Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Glenbrook South had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Leyden Eagles.

Glenbrook South got a great performance from Roger Niedermaier as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Niedermaier has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Trey Ryno was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Glenbrook South: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 14-19 otherwise. Evan Bonnell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Glenbrook South is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-20 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Leyden, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-17.

As of now, neither Glenbrook South nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
