Basketball Recap: Effingham Hearts vs. Charleston Trojans
Effingham and Charleston squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Effingham had to settle for second. They fell 49-36 to the Charleston Trojans. The Hearts just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Tyler Oakley was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds for Charleston. What's more, Oakley also posted a 62% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Luke Bonnstetter was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Effingham's loss dropped their record down to 7-25. As for Charleston, their victory bumped their record up to 12-20.
Effingham does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Charleston, they will challenge Centralia at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Centralia's favor as the team sits on 15 straight wins at home while Charleston has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
