Softball Recap: Pike Red Devils vs. Martinsville Artesians

Pike extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Martinsville Artesians. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 19-0 to the Artesians when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Martinsville, the win got them back to even at 8-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Martinsville's part, they got a great performance from Grace Cook as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Cook a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Nacey Dickinson and Aubrie Shepherd did most of the damage at the plate: Dickinson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Shepherd went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Dickinson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylee Jarrett, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Pike didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-3 loss against Ben Davis on the 26th. As for Martinsville, they have also already played their next game, an 11-0 defeat against Living Water Homeschool on the 26th.
