Baseball Game Preview: Maria Carrillo Pumas vs. Ukiah Wildcats

For the second straight game, Maria Carrillo will face off against Ukiah. The Pumas will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Ukiah hit Maria Carrillo with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pumas came up short against the Wildcats, falling 9-1.

For Ukiah's part, Brayden Beebe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Beebe also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ukiah is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-10 otherwise. Beebe was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on George Gibbs, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Ukiah's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brody Ford, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Ukiah's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11. As for Maria Carrillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
