Softball Recap: Montgomery Wins Going Away Against Healdsburg

After losing to Healdsburg the last time they met, Montgomery decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Greyhounds on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Natalia Campos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 14 hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laela Shimon, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Gumm, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Healdsburg only posted an OBP of .314.

Montgomery's record is now 9-13. As for Healdsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery will host Piner at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Prospectors have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Healdsburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elsie Allen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.67 runs per game on average), something the Greyhounds will no doubt try to take advantage of.
