Softball Game Preview: Hayfield Vikings vs. Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs

The Hayfield Vikings will take on the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Friday, Hayfield came up short against Houston and fell 6-1. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kenna Rutledge was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Rutledge is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Plainview-Elgin-Millville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 10-3 to Caledonia. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Bulldogs' highest-scoring game to date.

Plainview-Elgin-Millville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Hayfield, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Hayfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Plainview-Elgin-Millville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
