Recap: Mancos Bluejays vs. Sanford Mustangs
Even though the Mancos Bluejays have not done well against the Sanford Mustangs recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Mancos snuck past Sanford with a 41-37 victory. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but Mancos was the better team in the second half.
Mancos was led to victory by Teya Yeomans and Claire Goodwin. Yeomans dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Goodwin scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Goodwin has scored at least a third of Mancos' points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Mancos and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Sanford, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Mancos will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Telluride at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Telluride will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Mancos is ranked 88th). As for Sanford, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Monte Vista at 3:00 p.m. Monte Vista's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so Sanford's offense will have their work cut out for them.
