Baseball Recap: Archbishop Riordan Gets the Win

Archbishop Riordan won the last time they faced Hillsdale and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Crusaders walked away with an 8-4 win over the Fighting Knights. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Archbishop Riordan got a great performance from Mason Cohn as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Cohn also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Crusaders are 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-12-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Oliver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Daniel Ordonez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3.

Archbishop Riordan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.

Archbishop Riordan's record now sits at 7-13-1. As for Hillsdale, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Archbishop Riordan will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Hillsdale, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 4-0 defeat against Sequoia on the 16th.
