Baseball Game Preview: Hollins Royals vs. Owensboro Red Devils

The Hollins Royals will take on the Owensboro Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Hollins has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Hollins' victory against Lakewood wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Royals narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Spartans 6-4. The victory continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.

Kyle Morrill looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hollins is 2-1 when Morrill allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hollins saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Stiles, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Stiles has posted since back in February. Aaron Anderson was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, while Owensboro put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Pinellas Park. The Red Devils were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Patriots. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Red Devils this season.

Owensboro is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hollins, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Hollins came out on top in a nail-biter against Owensboro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Royals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
