Softball Game Preview: Kaneland Knights vs. LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers

Kaneland hasn't had much luck against LaSalle-Peru recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Kaneland and Morris, and Kaneland kept the tradition alive. The Knights came out on top against the Redskins by a score of 9-6 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly three runs.

Brynn Woods was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Angelina Campise was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Maddie Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, LaSalle-Peru waltzed into their contest on Monday with 20 straight wins... but they left with 21. They never let the Hubs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

LaSalle-Peru pushed their record up to 26-3 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kaneland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.
