Basketball Game Preview: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Tracy Bulldogs

Two dominant guards in Kwasi Moses and Maximillian Russell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Venture Academy Mustangs will challenge the Tracy Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Venture Academy has five straight wins, Tracy has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Thursday, Venture Academy took their game with ease, bagging an 84-30 victory over Ben Holt College Prep Academy. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 33 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Tracy took a blow against Modesto Christian on Friday, falling 81-53. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Crusaders are ranked 32nd).

Venture Academy pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points over those games. As for Tracy, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Venture Academy came up short against Tracy when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 61-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Russell, who went 11 for 24 on his way to 26 points.
