Softball Recap: Mize Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

The matchup between Mize and Heidelberg on Monday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. Mize never let Heidelberg get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ella Gordon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Marissa Reyes and Lila Gordon did most of the damage at the plate: Reyes scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Lila scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. Gordon has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizanna Waters, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Mize always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .960. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Mize's third in a row) raised their record to 13-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing seven strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.88 in the others. As for Heidelberg, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mize will square off against Collins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heidelberg, they will challenge Quitman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
