Basketball Recap: Hughson Huskies vs. Downey Knights
If Hughson was feeling good fresh off their 75-31 takedown of Waterford last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hughson Huskies took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Downey Knights on Thursday. The Huskies lost against the Knights in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 86-24 score last time.
Hughson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Karam Kang, who earned 17 points in addition to two steals. The contest was Kang's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Urquidez, who scored nine points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks.
Emerson Digiore was nothing short of spectacular for Downey: he dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daley Holmes, who had 12 points.
Hughson's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Downey, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Hughson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-52 defeat against Big Valley Christian on the 6th. Downey has also already played their next matchup, a 60-32 loss against Beyer on the 6th.
