Basketball Recap: Front Range Baptist Takes a Loss

If Front Range Baptist was feeling good fresh off their 71-50 takedown of Lone Star last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Front Range Baptist Falcons took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Peetz Bulldogs. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2017.

Despite the loss, Front Range Baptist still got an impressive performance from Mark Sutton, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Benjamin VanDenBerghe, who posted 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Front Range Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 44 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Peetz to victory, but perhaps none more so than Connor Schumacher, who went 7-for-17 on his way to 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The game was Schumacher's third in a row with at least 20 points. Dylan Wagner was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Front Range Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Peetz, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Front Range Baptist and Peetz should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Front Range Baptist will take on Mile High Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday up 173 places (162 vs. 335). Front Range Baptist is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Peetz (ranked 147th) will meet Weldon Valley (ranked 314th) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
