Volleyball Recap: San Joaquin Memorial's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

After flying high against Sanger West on Tuesday, San Joaquin Memorial came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 3-1 to the Hoover Patriots on Wednesday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 15-25, 25-19.

Sofie Meissner paced San Joaquin Memorial's offense, picking up 25 kills. Meissner got some help from Ginger Wilds and her 19 assists. Taydem Gonzalez controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Hoover can attribute much of their success to Alejandra Espino, who had 16 assists and eight digs. That's the most assists Espino has posted over her last eight contests.

With the defeat, San Joaquin Memorial broke their five-match winning streak and moved their record to 12-9. As for Hoover, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5.

San Joaquin Memorial has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Saint Francis on the 26th. As for Hoover, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Paso Robles on the 27th.
