Thornton Academy is 9-1 against Bonny Eagle since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Scots at 4:30 p.m. Thornton Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Bonny Eagle will be coming in after a loss.
Thornton Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Westbrook by a score of 15-10. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Blue Blazes: they've now won seven in a row.
Sophia Bogardus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bogardus was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Theresa Eng and Emma Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Eng went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Barnes got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that Eng has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madison Tripp, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Thornton Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westbrook only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 20 runs the game before, Bonny Eagle was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Kennebunk by a score of 4-2. The Scots have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Reese Bryant was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Bonny Eagle's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Thornton Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Thornton Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Bonny Eagle struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
