Recap: Mounds Golden Eagles vs. Newkirk Tigers

The Mounds Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 11th straight loss. They fell just short of Newkirk by a score of 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Mounds has suffered yet this season.

Mounds' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Baylie Harig, who scored 20 points. That was a full 50% of Mounds' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Faith Rogers, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.

Mounds struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.

Mounds dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their 18th straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.4 points per game. As for Newkirk, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.

Mounds will stay at home for another game and welcome Porter at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Newkirk, Newkirk and Perry will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Perry has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
